About
Pat Kreitlow has announced his intention to
seek election in 2006 to the Wisconsin State
Senate in the 23rd District.
Kreitlow,
41, says after spending most of his adult life
reporting the news in and around Wisconsin, the
time has come to address issues he sees being
handled poorly –or not handled at all—by
Republicans who currently hold power in
Madison.
The Kreitlow campaign will
stress education, health care and political
reform as Wisconsin’s real values. He’ll remind
voters how the current legislature’s priorities
are not in keeping with those real Wisconsin
values. And he’ll present himself as an
independent, open-minded alternative to the
entrenched incumbents who are more concerned
with sound bites than actual
solutions.
“And believe me, I know a
thing or two about people who have nothing to
offer beyond the sound bites.”
“Our
employers depend on schools to create the best
and brightest graduates. Our tax burden is made
lighter by a growing workforce. But our
legislative leaders are destined to weaken
Wisconsin through short-sighted thinking that
only seeks to win the next election or one of
their countless rhetorical spitball fights,”
said Kreitlow, a resident of Eagle Point
township.
Kreitlow says Wisconsin
legislators should be working with school
districts to craft finance plans that are more
efficient for taxpayers without resorting to
mean-spirited political gimmicks that would
actually make our schools weaker and threaten
the long-term health of our state
economy.
The Kreitlow Senate campaign
will also stress that Wisconsin residents value
accessible, affordable health care. “Our values
are to care for the youngest, the oldest, the
sickest and the most vulnerable among us. We
deserve a legislature committed to making
quality health care for all of our families a
top priority. This legislature has failed and
we deserve better.”
The Kreitlow
campaign will point out the failings of both
Democrats and Republicans when it comes to
campaign finance scandals, the band-aid
approaches to election reform, and the
near-extinction of civility in our houses of
government. Wisconsin deserves new lawmakers
who will take their roles seriously to keep our
politics clean.
Bio
Pat Kreitlow served as anchor for WEAU in Eau
Claire for almost a decade. He retired in June
to spend time with his family and in October
announced his candidacy for Senate against Dave
Zien in the 23rd Senate District. "After
dedicating a decade of service to the community
by asking leaders tough questions, Pat Kreitlow
begins his campaign for reform in Madison,"
said Senate Democratic Leader Judy Robson.
"This is a district that John Kerry won and
traditionally leans Democratic," she continued.
"In addition, Pat Kreitlow is an extraordinary
candidate. After spending every night literally
in the living rooms of Chippewa Valley
residents, Pat begins this campaign with the
credibility to deliver on his promises. He
backs it all up with a breadth and depth of
knowledge on the issues important to
voters."
