The Arizona League of Conservation Voters (AZLCV) is pleased to announce the Water Conservation Poster Contest 2005.
As Arizona continues to grow and there’s more demand on our water resources every day, water conservation has become one of the top issues in our state. AZLCV, the largest membership conservation organization in Arizona, has made preserving and protecting our water resources its top priority for 2005.
Arizona children and parents alike understand intuitively that we must save water to ensure that we will all have enough water for the next generation – and the generation after that. The AZLCV Water Conservation Poster Contest is a way to encourage children – and their parents – to think about ways to save water now to ensure water for the future.
Saving Water Indoors.
Ideas include: Taking shorter showers;
putting a brick in the toilet tank; turning off
the bathroom faucet as you brush your teeth;
turning off the kitchen faucet all the way so
it won’t leak; not wasting water at the water
fountain.
Saving Water Outside.
Ideas include: Using a broom instead of the
hose to clean off the driveway; watering the
lawn less often; reporting when a fire hydrant
is open; watering the grass at golf courses
less often; turning off the sprinkler when
you’re done playing in the water; using desert
landscaping instead of grass.
Students currently enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 5 are eligible to enter the contest. Each school will judge its own students’ posters and submit one poster for each grade. Every entry must be sponsored by a teacher or principal from the student’s school. All entries must include the attached Entry Form.
Entry categories: One winner from each grade (K through 5) will be chosen. Winning entries will be announced in conjunction with Earth Day, April 22, 2005.
Use crayons, colored pencil, markers, paint, water color, charcoal or other drawing materials. Collages consisting of material cut out of magazines and sculptures will not be accepted. Words can be incorporated into the poster but are not required. Entries should be submitted on paper or cardboard within the following size limits:
• No larger than 18” x 24”
•
No smaller than 8-1/2” x 11”
On the back
of each poster, include:
• The
artist’s name, age and grade level (Grades K
through 5)
• Name of institution and
sponsoring teacher or principal
• Address
and city
• Phone number and e-mail
address
Entries will be
judged on:
• How well they
illustrate a way to save water
• Artistic
expression
There will be one winner from each grade (Grades K through 5). Governor Janet Napolitano will present Award Certificates to winners at an Awards Ceremony at the State Capitol in Phoenix on April 22, 2005. Winning posters will then be put on display at the State Capitol building. Additionally, winning posters will be shared with the news media.
